Being an older girl (1986 4runner) she has a few rough edges. Luckily for us, she has a smoking body and just needs to get some new shoes.
The temperature was hovering at a warm -5 (For January in Yukon) and Matthew, J.P, Dan and Myself fire up the heater and Genset and begin some part swapping. After having to rebuild the carburetor on the Genset that I haven’t used in three years Dan and I pulled off the front skid plates, radiator, alternator and belts. The Radiator will be replaced with new (or re-cored, price dependent) and the horrible stock 60AMP alternator will be replaced with CS-144 out of a Cadillac to bring the output up to 140AMP to accommodate Go-Pros and other electronics . Just to keep EFI going we will put a stock rebuilt alternator in until the conversion parts arrive. J.P and Matt replaced the shocks on all four corners with Bilsteins. 28 years of life made the task a pain but J.P. made it happen.
We were also able to wire up the ‘shop’ with lights and organize the shop a bit. We think another table will help out for organizing tools and then have the parts table.
Up next is the interior. It needs to be removed and replaced. The seats are tired and the DX model only had vinyl flooring. At that time we will repair some wiring issues and replace the damaged ignition. Brakes will be done in the next few days by J.P. and hopefully we can start to install some new rubber bushings too.
Much more to come, stay tuned.
